Accommodation

Organise your own accommodation. All types of accommodation available in the area.

Cathy & I will be camping on the McCrae Foreshore. Last year we stayed in Section 5/Campsite 85 and will stay in the same area this year.

Bookings are made with the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au/Activities/Camping/Book-a-campsite

Bookings for the 2026/27 season open on the 3rd August. Last year, there was plenty of space for camping.

For each campsite, a maximum of 4 adults are allowed, so multiple tents could be erected per site.

For those that are camping, there is a small shopping plaza with a Coles supermarket. This plaza is opposite the campsite for easy navigation.

Thursday Evening - Meal & Entertainment

No organised walk. We will arrive and setup camp during the afternoon. For the past couple of years, Rosebud RSL has had a tribute band playing on the last Thursday of November. No details from the RSL as yet. We will eat at the RSL in the evening, band or no band (you can't eat if you don't have tickets for the band). I'll book tables once I have an idea about numbers. The evening is very popular if a band is playing (hint: book in to the basecamp early). We have seen some great tribute bands over the years: a fun night.

Walking

Some walks will start from the campsite.

Friday 27th

A walk TBD.

Saturday 28th

A big day: an early start. Walk from McCrae to Fort Nepean (at the tip of Point Nepean NP) along the bay. 30kms. Return by Point Nepean shuttle bus, and bus #788. Individuals can return back to camp/cars using the bus at any point during the walk if you feel that you have had enough.

Sunday 29th

We will probably do a walk around Arthurs Seat/Red Hill. Walking from McCrae campsite. Details TBD.

Monday 30th

A morning walk. Details TBD.

Greetings Everyone

.... just a friendly reminder about our Rosebud RSL visit on the evening of Thursday 26th November.

Thank you to those that have replied already via the WhatsApp group message to say YES or NO.

And a few that are overseas at the moment and can’t do the bank transfer until they are home.

There is no need to read any further if you are one of the above.

For those that haven’t replied, please could you check your WhatsApp for the original message. Please let me know if you would like to join us for the evening of the 26th.

If you can’t find the message, or have removed yourself from the group, please let me know and I will re-add you.

If you need to reply to me, please do so ‘privately’ (I think they call the term ‘PM me’), rather than replying to the group as a whole.

If you still have access to the WhatsApp group, then please respond either YES or NO using the ‘Poll’ : this makes it easier for me to keep track of attendees.

It is important to remain a member of the WhatsApp group so that I can forward information about each day’s activities. This is particularly important because the accommodation for this basecamp is diverse.

I hope all the above makes sense.

Thank you
Chris
