Tuesday adventuring and cultural walk

This is a short walk, along Taylor's Creek near Taylor's Lakes.

Take the 8:20 am Eltham train (8:31 Watsonia, 8:39 Heidelberg, 8:42 Ivanhoe) to arrive at Flinders St at 9:02am.

Walk through the underpass to Town Hall Station and catch the 9:13 am train to Watergardens on the Sunbury line.

Once at Watergardens station, the walk is past the shopping centre, down to Taylor's Creek linear park to Green Gully Reserve.

The walk is notable for the flood mitigation spillways and lakes, leading from the curated area near the shopping centre down to  the more natural grasslands and bush near Green Gully Reserve.

From Green Gully reserve, a 421 bus is caught back to St Albans, where the centre can be explored for its diverse grocery and shopping opportunities.

From St Albans Station, a train is caught back to Library Station, followed by a short walk to Melbourne Central and a train home.

Bring morning tea, lunch. Poles are not generally necessary, but there is a short rise at the end which could be a bit rough.

The reward is a great coffee to be had at the coffee shop near St Albans Station at the end of the walk.

Flinders St Station Clocks to Williamstown

Starting from beneath the iconic clocks at Flinders Street Station, we meander through Southbank Promenade, taking in the riverfront atmosphere as we make our way towards Port Melbourne.

Once at the beach, we pause for a relaxed morning tea by the water, enjoying the coastal views.

From there, we continue along the scenic bayside trail, following the shoreline and under the Westgate Bridge until we reach the Port Melbourne Punt. For a small fare ($5), we cross the water beneath the West Gate Bridge to Spotswood – a unique and memorable part of the journey.

After disembarking, we enjoy a leisurely stroll through to Williamstown, where we settle into one of its charming cafés for a well-deserved lunch. (Optional)

To finish the day, it’s a short walk to Williamstown train station for a comfortable return trip back to Flinders Street.

Candlbark Reserve

Meet at Eltham Lower Park (Mel 21 H10) at 0920 for a 0930 start.  Park your car near the new facilities block).

The walk begins by following a direct line across to pony club grounds to the footbridge. After crossing the bridge into Candlebark Reserve the walk proceeds towards Petty’s Orchards.  Before reaching the orchard (at the end of the boardwalk) we veer to the right and walk up hill, bearing left onto a path that takes us down to an old dam. We walk along the edge of the dam and head west until we reach a mown track, onto which we turn right and head uphill next to the power lines.  Passing under the power lines we turn left onto a cleared access along a fence on its southern boundary and then take the path off to the right and walk for about 75 m and turn left onto a bike track.  We follow that bike path around a dam that eventually runs parallel (and behind) the houses on Fitsimmons Lane, following it back to the bridge over the Yarra.  We will then turn left and do a short circuit into Westerfolds Park (toilets).  Then return to Eltham Lower Park (2.4 km).

Don't forget, morning tea, sturdy shoes, hat and water.

Lysterfield Lake & Surrounds

Start from the Spotted Gum Car Park. Circular walk covering a variety of terrain. Mostly well formed gravel tracks or single file trails. Walking anti-clockwise we leave the lake and gradually climb up to Quarry Track. We make our way up to the Trig Point then it is mostly down hill for the rest of the way. Generally lots of roo’s around and we pass the remnants of the old tramway cart used to take rocks from the quarry to build the dam wall. Some areas of the walk can be sloppy after rain. Bring morning tea & lunch provisions.
